Key Findings Cultural events are important in urban development and the growth of tourism with the European Cities of Culture project being one of the most important from a cultural development, infrastructural and tourism perspective. Tourism indicators rose during the year of culture and then fell in the following year. The designation of European City of Culture delivered gains in terms of recognition and image.
