Categories: Arts, culture and the economy
Objectives: To understand any changes in working practices of fine arts graduates since the 1930s and to ask what those changes tell us about the way fine artists and their skills are being absorbed into the wider economy and have impacted on innovation.
Methods: The study is based on a cohort study of fine art graduates from the University of the Arts in London (since the 1930s). An online survey was completed by over 500 members of the University of the Arts alumni association; 40 face-to-face life biography interviews were held. In addition, a literature review was carried out to provide a narrative context.
