Objectives: To test a scale developed to measure resident perception of the social impacts of small community-based festivals.
Methods: This article follows up on the stafes of item generation and pre-testing of the Festival Social Impact Attitude Scale (FSIAS) developed by Delamere, Wankel and Hinch (2001) by measuring community attitudes of the social impacts of a local folk music festival. 47 social benefits and social cost statements were incorporated into an expectancy-value model of attitude, to reflect residents' attitudes. Surveys were administered to local residents. Factor analysis was used to refine and assess the underlying dimensionality of the scale items. Attitudes towards benefits as well as costs were measured, applied to community as well as individual.
